Activate / Set Up DeviceActivate your iPhone XR to get started. This ensures you can make calls, send messages and connect to the internet.
Before you begin
If this is an upgrade or your phone was not activated when purchased, refer to the activate a new iPhone.
iPhone XR requires a Wi-Fi network for eSIM activation. If you're only activating the eSIM, remove the pre-installed 5G SIM card to access Verizon's 5G network.
If the device has been set up with an incorrect Apple ID, erase all content and settings.
Using your previous iPhone, ensure the Find My app is disabled then power it off; If you don't have a previous iPhone, proceed to steps below.
If troubleshooting, don't restore the device until all testing has been completed.
Steps
- Press and hold thePower buttonto power on the new iPhone.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to choose a language then tap the country or region.
- From the Quick Start screen, tapSet Up Without Another Device.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
- From the Data & Privacy section, tapContinue.
- To set up Face ID, tapContinuethen follow the onscreen instructions.
- Enter a 6-digit passcode or tapPasscode Optionsto select a different method (e.g., 4-Digit Code, Don't Use Passcode, etc.).
- Tap a setup option then allow up to 30 minutes for the restore to complete:
- Enter your Apple ID and password then tapNext.If you have an Apple ID already in use on another device, a verification code is sent to that device; you must enter this code to proceed with activation.If you don't have an Apple ID or have forgotten your sign in info, tap Forgot password or Apple ID or Create a Free Apple ID.
- Review the Terms and Conditions, tapAgreethen follow the onscreen prompts (i.e. Update Your iPhone Automatically, Location Services, Siri, etc.) to customize more features.
- Once the setup completes and you're presented with the Welcome to iPhone screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to start using your iPhone.
