Apps use data differently, sometimes more than you expect. Follow these steps to control which apps on your Pixel 4 / 4 XL are allowed to use data in the background.

Before you begin

Some apps need background data. Restricting data may cause them to not work unless you have a Wi-Fi connection.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Tap
    Network & internet
     then do one of the following:
    • To view / restrict mobile data usage:
      1. Tap
        SIMs
         then tap
        App data usage
        .
        If using both physical SIM and eSIM, choose a mobile network (Verizon, eSIM).
      2. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
    • To view / restrict Wi-Fi data usage:
      1. Tap
        Internet
         then tap
        Non-carrier data usage
        .
      2. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
