Add / Remove Iris Recognition

Use Iris™ recognition on your Galaxy S9 / S9+ to secure your device and personal info. If you decide to switch methods, you can delete your iris data anytime.

Before you begin

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Navigate:
    Biometrics and security
    Irises
    .
  3. Do one of the following:
    • For first time setup:
      1. Review the disclaimer then tap
        Continue
        .
      2. While holding the phone 10-14 inches away, open your eyes wide and look at the screen.
      3. Follow any additional instructions to complete the process.
      4. Tap the
        Notifications switches
         to turn the following on or off:
        • Iris unlock
          : Unlock your phone with your irises.
        • Screen-on iris recognition
          : Unlocks the phone with your irises as soon as the screen turns on, without swiping first.
        • Stay on Lock screen
          : When you unlock the device with iris recognition, stay on the Lock screen until you swipe.
    • To remove irises:
      1. Tap
        Remove iris data
        .
      2. To confirm, review the disclaimer then tap
        Remove
        .
